St. James was built in 1935, through the generosity and hard work of the neigbouring families of Port Cunnington. The church was built beside the cemetery, which was established in 1912 by a donation of land from the Cunnington family. The church and cemetery sit along the road on the edge of the Port Cunnington Lodge complex.

These churches are open during the summer to serve the entire Fox Point/Port Cunnington community, with services in July and August at 9:00 (Port Cunnington) and 11:00 (Fox Point). The churches are named after St. James and St. John, two brothers who were among Jesus inner circle of disciples. Jesus affectionately nicknamed them The Sons of Thunder and the Bible contains their writings and stories of their lives. These heritage churches are indeed the Sons of Thunder in our Lake of Bays Parish.

In addition to a rich history, we have a lively summer ministry which includes an annual Regatta (85 years strong), featuring local musicians. This year the date is July 23rd, starting at 11 a.m. at Port Cunnington Lodge, 705-635-2505. Every year, our Regatta is hosted as a combined effort between our churches and five Lodges in Fox Point and Port Cunnington. Additional information can be found in the 'Calendar of Events' section on this web site. The annual memorial Service for the founding families and loved-ones buried in St. James cemetery will be held in August this year. The exact date will be posted as soon as it is known.
